As performed by the Inmates of the Asylum of Charenton

Under the Direction of Marquis de Sade.”

Contrary to the popular expectation the play is not about Mad people. The play is a great tribute to “Alienation”. The play reveals the conflict between social and political impressions and judgments.  Illusions and disillusion cohabit painfully and are inseparable. The very long name of the play explains what has happened and what is going to happen.  The play is also about political unrest and social upheaval.  A dialectical play, it explores notions of revolution.
